about

It's 1936; an experienced bank robber takes on an apprentice. During their first robbery together, the new guy trips an alarm that traps the old guy inside the bank's vault, where he is apprehended. The cops never knew about the new guy.

lyrics

You did your time
It was the crime of the century
Nobody noticed me
You made up your mind
Turning me in was a sin
so you said with a grin (you said)

* I acted on my own
The fact is I work better all alone
But I acted all by myself
The fact is I did not have any help

Two at a time
Both of us breaking and entering
I wasn't focusing
I tripped the alarm
Trapping you safely inside of the
safe and you said yourself

*(Chorus)

Don't get upset - you get what you get
1936 will soon be 1974
I heard what you plead
it went straight through my head
I got to thinking I was blinking
when I should have played dead

Blue collars and stripes
There have been nights where I've
thought about ending it all
It's so far from fair
I'll often stare in the distance
and hear your insistence

*(Chorus)
