I used to be so strong before things went so wrong what you must think of me scares me half to death are you holding your breath for me? I've got a life long history of being just like me so tell me what that’s worth for another sleepless night hoping I was right for you I've got a four leaf clover and a heart made of gold and off in the distance there's a fork in the road I'll either go on my way or I'll just explode either way I'm going down that fork in the road I wanted to give up so I got stronger stuff and finally I could see all the things I thought were good weren't really all that good for me I've got a four leaf clover and a heart made of gold and off in the distance there's a fork in the road I'll either go on my way or I'll just explode either way I'm going down that fork in the road Do what you want be who you are it will only go so far with your spoon and your knife you have got to learn to live your life And now my mind's at ease and everyone agrees just keep me from myself there are reasons that we're here but most are not that clear for me I've got a four leaf clover and a heart made of gold and off in the distance there's a fork in the road I'll either go on my way or I'll just explode either way I'm going down that fork in the road

My Story 04:00
So I guess this is my story In all its glory if you care It all started in Chicago Hell if I know exactly where A boy and a girl Out to change the world So it wound up in divorce court It was so short and that was that So we moved on in with Grandma Me and my mama and the cat Most memories are good I blocked out what I could So I interrupt this program With this breaking news story And I know you're thinking oh damn This sounds nothing close to me In the year that I turned seven They shot John Lennon and he died And my mom she got remarried I'll call him Harry 'cause he's shy (and he is) While making up for lost time My daddy fought crime So I interrupt this program With this breaking news story And I know you're thinking oh damn This sounds nothing close to me It took all kinds of time To make up my mind Even now I still find I'm lost When I think about the answer When I asked her to be mine So together in the moonlight Under the starlight we made a son While my life goes on My momma is gone So I interrupt this program With this breaking news story And I know you're thinking oh damn This sounds nothing close to me

Circus Music 03:20
It's just circus music And nobody cares It's just a soundtrack That floats through the air And I'm just a clown here I'm here to amuse But it's getting harder To fill these big shoes I've got my popcorn And watered-down wine I drive a two-door It seats about nine....teen. And I'm just a clown here I'm here to amuse But it's getting harder To fill these big shoes Could I entertain you Into taking me seriously I just need to follow my nose I can't walk a tightrope Just juggle and try My life is a circus And I'm just a guy And I'm just a clown here I'm here to amuse But it's getting harder To fill these big shoes

The same old progression is my new obsession I hope that that's OK with you A G down to F# an Em C Then put your capo on fret number three And that's a D So, just open your mind and I hope that you find That there's someway that we can relate I'll unravel a story that may not be true And hope that it has some affect upon you And that's a D I see monkeys in a room all playing piano Coming up with better songs than this all day And of course I'd really love to play piano With a monkey any day Now, I'll try to convey in the words that I say All the feelings I have deep inside There's no better way than to say it in song But sometimes it comes out all messed up and wrong And that's a D I see monkeys in a room all playing piano Coming up with better songs than this all day And of course I'd really love to play piano With a monkey any day Play piano with a monkey Someday monkey play piano song

We lost the experiment And I have my own theories You don't need a lab coat to know It's just bad chemistry It was all right in front of us Cart followed donkey But we found the wheels were all square And it went down from there We ran all the stop signs And sped into darkness But we saw the light up ahead The green one means go So now here we are At the point of no return We've come so far Now there's nowhere left to turn - right here It's more than just housework And it sucks like a vacuum But we've got to clean this all up And start over again So we'll have a garage sale And sell off the memories But I don't remember giving up my Night Ranger tapes So now here we are At the point of no return When you stand your ground There's a lesson to be learned We've come so far Now there's nowhere left to turn - right here We opened for business without this resistance to what was our mission plan As we search for happiness Everything wrong with this Will be alright again So now here we are At the point of no return When you stand your ground There's a lesson to be learned We've come so far Now there's nowhere left to turn - right here

You did your time It was the crime of the century Nobody noticed me You made up your mind Turning me in was a sin so you said with a grin (you said) * I acted on my own The fact is I work better all alone But I acted all by myself The fact is I did not have any help Two at a time Both of us breaking and entering I wasn't focusing I tripped the alarm Trapping you safely inside of the safe and you said yourself *(Chorus) Don't get upset - you get what you get 1936 will soon be 1974 I heard what you plead it went straight through my head I got to thinking I was blinking when I should have played dead Blue collars and stripes There have been nights where I've thought about ending it all It's so far from fair I'll often stare in the distance and hear your insistence *(Chorus)

Now it's time to say goodnight So goodnight and sleep tight You should know before I go The closet monster is listening ...and he's hungry Beneath your bed there is a door That opens up into an other world You should know before you go There's no return, that bridge will burn ...but there's candy Saddle up your rocking horse Of course you'll need to be ready Just in case there's a reason to run Brighten up, the chances are You'll be alright for tonight Bet the odds are a million to one that you'll be done...2...3...for. Now it's time to say goodnight So goodnight, don't let the bedbugs bite Or murder you. You should be fine I've tucked you in, and kissed your chin ...for protection Saddle up your rocking horse Of course you'll need to be ready Just in case there's a reason to run Brighten up, the chances are You'll be alright for tonight Bet the odds are a million to one that you'll be done...2...3...for.

about

A unique approach, a songwriter's album of acoustic-born "nerd-rock" recorded with love and mixed with care.
---
It's hard to be clever without sounding clever. That's a line that many of my own favorite songwriters try to ride. I've written hundreds of songs, but wanted a collection that had no sore thumbs...songs that I truly believed in.

All of the songs on this album gave me the "spine-shivers" at some point during the writing process. You can't fake that. It's that little moment where you've written something and it's impossible to believe that you came up with it, because it feels more like it came to you.

I love these songs. I love the collaborations I had in recording them. I love that so many good talented people wanted to contribute just for the fun of it. There were no agendas in the making of this recording. Everyone just did what they do and it just worked.

This is a collection of happy-accidents.
